Each summer, the National Portrait Gallery holds the BP Portrait Award to showcase the best of the best in modern portraiture from across the world. As a globally recognised institution, the gallery itself has maintained a significant role within London’s culture for over 170 years.
The BP Portrait Awards are currently in their 38th year of showcasing the leading examples of contemporary portrait painting from 87 different countries. Ranging from casual and informal, to intimate and focused pieces, the selected works are always full of variety with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
