A History Of Saucony

Posted by 2 on

Like a ninja in the night, Saucony is slowly but surely reemerging and winning serious cred on the streets. It has had plenty of peaks and troughs throughout it's 116 year history, but it has held strong, which shows the brands penchant for longevity and dedication to producing the best. You may not realise this, but Saucony is one of the longest running trainer companies still running (pun intended). First established in 1898 by the banks of the Saucony Creek, Pennsylvania, Saucony is a Native Indian word meaning 'mouth of creek'. If you cast your minds to the brands logo, a warped 'S' shape with three circles in the middle, you might next time see it as a swirling river with three rocks in the middle. Clever huh? Saucony started out in the children's shoe game and were pumping out around 800 pairs per day. Meanwhile, not too far away, a Russian Immigrant by the name of Abraham Hyde set up factory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and began making high-quality and technologically-innovative footwear including the brand, PF Flyers. Hyde excelled, and in the 60's purchased Saucony and moved it over to Cambridge. By the late 90's, the brand became Hyde's highest achiever leading him to change his company name from Hyde Athletic Industries to Saucony. Saucony focused on being the brand at the forefront of technical, high performance footwear, and to this day, are still creating absolute crackers. Recently, they have rehashed and released some of their old classic runners, which are making a very noticeable comeback. Two particular notables are the Shadow, first released in 1989, and the Grid, released in 1990. Saucony have done a brilliant job releasing these classics in crazy desirable colourways, breathing life into the brands 'casual' branch. They are becoming a hot commodity, so it's an idea to grab a pair as soon as possible. And guess what? You can do just that right here. Processed with VSCOcam with f1 preset
