As we pen this message a number of brands are in the process of dispatching our selections for Autumn/Winter; many of which have already began to filter through the doors here at Number Six. This week sees the debut of London’s Utile, additions from our friends at Penfield, and new styles from David Keyte’s Universal Works – all of which set the stage for what promises to be an interesting season.Utile Though relatively young, Utile approach their designs in a somewhat unexpected, methodical manner. Inspired by classic military and outdoor attire, the brand keenly forgoes the introduction of elaborate (and often unnecessary) accents, instead focusing on a garment’s functionality and core purpose. They embrace a minimal aesthetic that visually unites their growing line of apparel, rightly suggesting confidence in design choices that rely on a mixture of premium materials and an unwavering attention to detail. A refreshing no-frills approach has helped Utile shake ties with a range of stereotypes that often weigh down infant brands in their formative years, making them one of the most sought after young outfits in the UK today.Utile’s debut drop includes three key pieces for autumn; the seersucker Rushton overshirt, the cotton twill Fernandez overshirt and the military inspired Jules jacket, also fashioned from densely woven cotton twill.
PenfieldNew drops from Penfield include the Kasson jacket made from a robust, water resistant 60/40 cotton/nylon blend, treated with a special Teflon coating for added durability. The Kasson arrives in four colourways and boasts a number of practical features that include a multitude of outer and inner pockets, a Penfield embossed popper storm flap, drawstring peaked hood, drawstring waist and adjustable cuffs. The jacket is finished nicely with tan leather accents, which compliment any of the base colour available; black, navy, grey or tan. We’ve also received the Stapleton jacket in navy, which like the Kasson, has been produced from Penfield’s 60/40 material, though in contrast to the lighter Kasson, includes a densely packed mixture of 80% down and 20% feathers – perfect to combat a harsh winter where ever you may be. The Stapleton also features a 100% tan leather shoulder yoke, zip fastening with popper storm flap, two popper chest pockets, two side zip hand warmer pockets, and leather accents. Our Penfield round up finishes with the Outback vest in navy, a distant cousin the Stapleton – again featuring a mix of down and feathers and produced in the Teflon treated 60/40 fabric. The Outback vest provides a great standalone option for lighter autumn days, or teamed with another jacket when winter calls for heavy layering.Universal WorksDavid Keyte’s Universal Works have been a great success in past seasons. Their goods represent a medley of new and old that honours key elements of traditional British style, yet remains relevant today thanks to some subtle modernist revisions. Our new stock includes jumpers, cardigans, tees and jackets – so much so that we’d recommend seeing itfor yourself here.
Off to shoot some more of the fine garments we have recently received. Next week, keep an eye out for Our Legacy, Modern Classics and Pointer......all looking rather magnificent we must say. Until then, au revoir All at WWW.NUMBERSIXLONDON.COM
