Good design keeps us going. Carefully refined, well-considered goods that develop themselves into being essential everyday objects. That’s what makes people like Jason Gregory one of the best product designers around today. The team here at Number Six HQ are surrounded by some of the best architecture and design in the world, thanks to our East London location. But we still take it upon ourselves to bring even more of the good stuff into our lives. Enter Jason’s brand: MAKR.
“An innovation phenomenon”
Established in 2007 in a small Floridian design studio, the MAKR name has quickly become an innovative phenomenon right across the globe. Founder Jason Gregory emphasises the importance of incorporating precise, meticulous processes into each piece. This ethos translates right across the collection, whether it’s soft leather goods, metalwork, furniture or interior architecture. The entire collection filled with locally crafted quality, and that's difficult to imitate. All MAKR products are bona fide and community-focused at all times.
Two stand-out pieces from the collection are the Turn Fob and the Eyewear Sleeve, two products with some seriously strong, utilitarian design. Both items are made from a single piece of heavily manipulated, raw leather. It creates some striking functionality and bridges the gap between the everyday and the extraordinary.
“Designed for longevity and sustainability”
MAKR designed products omit any unnecessary aspects. The Eyewear sleeve is fully hand sewn and edge painted, with a singular antique brass press stud. The way the leather is crafted and cut is the sole crux behind the design, the lenses remain fully protected without creating bulk, and can be adapted for any shape and size of eyewear.
The Jason & the team behind MAKR create a conversation between the designer, craftsman and the eventual user of the product. It’s mindfulness and responsibility like this, which mean these pieces are designed for longevity, sustainability, and ultimately to serve you well no matter your existing lifestyle. Designed to improve and enhance your current way of life, not to alter it.
