Number Six Selects: Two Pieces | Summer's Coming

Posted by Dray Walk on

In case you missed it, the clocks are going back this Sunday. That means it’s the start of British Summer Time. We’re closer to long evenings in a decent beer garden with a few good mates. Finishing up in the office and going home while it’s still daylight, but most importantly, it’s the season when layering gets harder. If you’re really menswear-dedicated, it’s not impossible, but when London reaches those tropical temperatures of 21C you might want to go for something lighter. Enter the two piece.

"Some hidden gems we reckon you should know about"

We’re seeing it across the board from some of our best-loved brands right now. From Champion, to Universal Works, to Carhartt, our buyers have got some cracking two piece ideas in this season. We found the Number Six in-house photographer Matt, cornered him, and got the low-down on some hidden gems we reckon you should know about.

Going straight in with some classic production processes, Saturdays NYC have raised the bar with their original Water Stack print. Influenced by traditional Shibori resist-dyeing methods, it’s heritage clothing that’s got a good story behind it. We’ll even let you use it as a conversation starter if you need, have that one on us. There’s a short-sleeved, lightweight shirt that features a button down collar and single patch pocket, and a pair of shorts you can double as trunks. We’re all about that versatility.

"Ahead of the game for years"

As a long-standing Number Six favourite, Champion continue to tick a lot of boxes for us. SS18’s ‘Everyday People’ collection sees the re-introduction of pastel pink as a core colourway. Champion are pioneers of the Reverse Weave technique that’s kept them ahead of the game for years. It’s innovation in clothing that won’t stretch, shrink, or bend out of shape no matter how much you wear and wash it. We’ve got the Reverse Weave Sweatshorts, T-Shirt, and Reverse Weave Crewneck Sweatshirt all available in an identical wash. It’s a strong vibe, and we’re not complaining.

Saturdays NYC aren’t the only ones with a fresh, original graphic in their SS18 repertoire. Universal Works has developed the St. Ives print as part of their in-house graphic design work, and it’s a seriously steezy look. We’ve got the classic Road Shirt, a piece taken straight from the brand’s extensive archives, and a bucket hat both available in the one-off print.

"Versatile, durable, and seriously well-made"

To round off the two-pieces, we’re looking at Carhartt’s cleverly designed Alder stripe that fits in with both a workwear and a laid-back summertime aesthetic. The Alder stripe features a tonal stone blue and white colourway that’s versatile, durable, and seriously well-made. The S/S Shirt is a regular fitting short sleeved piece that features a button down collar and single patch pocket at the left chest. The matching shorts are crafted from a midweight, breathable cotton and feature minimalistic Carhartt branding above the right back pocket.
