A First Look at Maharishi for AW17

A First Look at Maharishi for AW17

“Combining cultural influences with gritty urban survival”

You can rely on Maharishi for a lot of things. They always bring out the good stuff season after season. They produce the best range of functional, utilitarian clothing right at the heart of their work. And they make it look easy.

The team behind Maharishi are carrying on Hardy Blechman’s 1994 vision of creating eco-friendly, fair-trade clothing. The design innovation is built around original uses of organic cotton, repurposed military fabrics, and a selection of other strong, natural fibres. For over 20 years, these guys have been combining cultural influences from around the world with a gritty sense of urban survival.

“Well-considered, high-functioning design at its best”

Respect is an important part of the process. From mantras like ‘The names are many, the truth is one’ (as seen on the Maha World Tour Jacket), to celebrating the natural resources used to keep things sustainable. There’s a huge focus on the contrast between war and peace in the designs. It’s all effortlessly blended together by using pacifist motifs on purpose-built clothing made from upcycled military fabrics.

For AW17 the collection is stronger than ever, with more unique features and detailed fabrics than you could think of. The Custom Pants feature a triple pocket detail at the right hip, with two external pockets, one with a zip closure, and an extra pocket on the inside cut especially for your phone. It’s well-considered, high-functioning design at its best.

“Purpose-built clothing”

Another staff favourite from our handpicked selection includes the Golden Dragon T-Shirt. It’s part of their AW17 ‘Golden Dragon’ collection, and it features some super detailed hand-worked Japanese embroidery. The Rollaway Shopping Bags are something a bit special too. Made from 100% recycled military parachute fabric, we bet you can’t find a stronger, lighter shopping bag that folds away smaller than this one. We’ve got them in Olive & Orange for you to choose between.
