The Spitalfields Candle Company use a soya wax from a sustainable source for their candles and only aromatherapy-grade essential oils. Wherever possible they use organic oils, or those made from UK-grown plant and herb extracts.
"Of all the lemon scented herbs, lemon verbena has one of the truest lemon scents. The essential oil is used in aromatherapy to lift the spirits and reduce stress.
Vervain (verbena) was one of the sacred herbs of the Druids and was called hiera botane, or 'sacred plant', by the Romans. The 16th century herbalist, John Gerard, warns against using it 'for witchcraft and sorceries'. It was traditionally believed to be a female aphrodisiac, and until comparatively recently was hung around the necks of children to avert infection."
